Our rehabilitation department functions seven days a week. Additionally, in order to facilitate our residents’ healing all the more, our experienced staff is multilingual. This allows full participation in all specialties, from speech therapy to physical therapy and everything in between, for our many residents with varied backgrounds. Therapy sessions take place in our beautiful, state-of-the-art gym, fully furnished with the best new equipment. The one-of-a-kind combination of equipment and staff here at Union Center allows our team to gently guide each resident to his or her maximum functional level.
Physical Therapy
- Works toward specific goals of achieving the residents’ highest functional level of independence.
- Focuses on the identification, prevention, and rehabilitation of individuals with physical impairment and pain.
- Includes the following areas of treatment:
- Increase lower extremities strength and mobility
- Enhance motor control for a resident who has suffered a stroke
- Facilitate coordination, balance, and the ability to ambulate after musculoskeletal injuries
- Manage pain
- Educate clients on proper body mechanics to prevent injury
Occupational Therapy
- Utilizes task-directed activities in treating our residents whose functional abilities, daily activities, and independence have been impaired by illness, injury, or aging.
- Assists residents in adapting to their social and physical environment by mastering tasks essential for daily living.
- Includes the following areas of treatment:
- Enhance functional independence: eating, bathing, toileting, homemaking, cooking, etc.
- Maintain wellness: dressing and grooming
- Prevent further disability: home assessments and modifications, adaptive equipment
- Increase safety awareness
Speech Therapy
- Provide services to assess, educate, and train the resident in communication, swallowing, and cognition.
- Treatment programs are designed to help residents affected by stroke, brain injury, dementia, and other neurological disorders.
- Includes the following areas of treatment:
- Improve speech and voice clarity
- Enhance comprehension and verbal expression
- Facilitate chewing and swallowing ability
- Maximize cognitive language skills: memory, problem-solving, and abstract reasoning
- Educate patients and caregivers and train to manage ongoing difficulties with communication, cognition, and swallowing
